Splunk Search

Does specifying real-time earliest/latest values in the search bar work for anyone?

Following the example described on http://www.splunk.com/base/Documentation/4.1/User/RealtimeSearch#Expected_performance_and_known_limi..., I've tried to give the search bar multiple "rt" values lifted straight from the listed examples, but always get the error that my values are invalid.

Example:

For the search: "source="localhost" earliest=rt-30s latest=rt"

the error bar appears:

"Invalid value "rt-30s" for time term "earliest""

Also, enableRealtimeSearch=true in my indexes.conf

Thank you

-Steve

Those values are not designed to be used from within the search language. They are configuration values in that you can specify them in times.conf (to add options to the Time Range Picker), or in the saved search dialog, or if you were directly using the REST API to access the splunk backend search engine.

The documentation is not clear about this and needs to be updated.
