About Sandeep Sandeep was among the first to reach out to us after we launched Splunk Love in December of 2021, and it was his ingenuity regarding Splunk Search that immediately impressed us. He works for an American multinational information services and technology company in the area of performance engineering and testing, and his contributions are critical to ensuring the uptime, stability, and reliability of his clients’ apps and digital experiences. In his own words: “I am a Performance Tester & Engineer, for the last one Jupiter year. Nearly half of it, my journey is with Splunk, as a key tool: Spelunking through the server logs, learning each day more ways to interpret the data from a huge pile, into a more human understanding. I am overjoyed, sluicing the gold bearing gravel of data from the banks of the Servers. :)” Some of Sandeep’s Love for Splunk Sandeep’s love for Splunk is rooted in both Splunk’s capabilities and in the efficiency and excellence it can bring to performance engineering and application performance management. It’s not uncommon for performance engineers to have to rigorously test applications and digital experiences with conditions different from a production or live environment, placing different aspects of the app’s infrastructure, services, or experiences under varying degrees of demand or use in order to confidently assure its stability and operability in similar live conditions. One objective of this critical work is to isolate and remediate errors if and when they arise from such circumstances, and this is where Splunk becomes critical, and where Sandeep’s use of Splunk becomes truly novel. You may have guessed by now that Sandeep and his team ingest collections of data from all aspects of the applications they test into Splunk, and it probably comes as no surprise that Splunk helps Sandeep and his team search for, investigate, and remediate errors they do find. All of this is part and parcel for using Splunk for operations and for application performance monitoring. But what’s not so routine is how Sandeep has managed to orchestrate his use of Splunk search to take error identification and investigation down from an hour to mere minutes. In Sandeep’s line-of-work, errors and issues often fall into similar patterns, but these patterns differ from those that might present themselves in a live environment, so traditional pattern detection tactics might lack both the data and the data context to increase the efficiency of performance engineers’ testing and remediation efforts. This is where Sandeep’s use of Splunk Search really impressed me. He and his team are able to recognize the patterns in errors easily, and when they do, they are able to create a search string that accounts for the pattern and returns what matches or what doesn’t. And when a novel error presents itself, his resulting dashboard makes it easy to obtain the error details, investigate, and get the valuable feedback needed to the right teams. The end result of this clever work is more efficient testing, to the tune of an hour’s worth of work taking minutes. Now you might be thinking, “but what happens when an error doesn’t fall into a pattern accounted for by Sandeep’s search queries?” Well… much like AI/ML learn from detecting patterns, so does Sandeep and his search patterns. Investigating non-comforming errors is easy with Splunk, and when previously unaccounted for errors fit a pattern, too, he merely adapts his query. The result is an entire team efficiently investigating and remediating the anomalous instead of the mundane. Exceptional and inspiring work, Sandeep and team! What’s next for Sandeep… Sandeep shared that he’s recently begun exploring a trial of Splunk’s Observability Cloud, to better understand how some of these newer capabilities might further enhance his and his team’s work and impact. What's up, Community nerds! Have you heard the latest .conf news?? Our biggest annual customer and partner event is moving from October to June! This year, .conf22 will take place June 13th through the 16th both in-person in Las Vegas and online as a virtual event. That's right... we're going fully hybrid, baby! Read: Kathleen's blog post announcing the .conf22 event update! Why the change from October to June? It's no secret that you, our customers and community members, are at the heart of everything we do, and our commitment to helping you all be data heroes remains unwavering. We've been so excited to reconnect, both in-person and online, and moving the .conf event to June helps us connect with you all, and helps you all connect with each other, much earlier in the year. We already have so much on deck including new products, apps, add-ons, use cases, and more. Believe me... we're bringing all of the .conf goodness and excitement, so mark those calendars and prepare for the best .conf event yet!  Where can I find more information on .conf22? The first and best place for .conf22 information will always be the .conf website. For some specifics about this year's .conf event and the changes, you can read this stellar post from Kathleen. And just like that... .conf21 in behind us, and what a wonderful collection of experiences it has been. You may have seen me popping in here or there, and I know I saw plenty of YOU... on the virtual stage with your fabulous breakout sessions... on the Twitch steam and keynote stage with our illustrious new SplunkTrust... and in our Virtual Community Lounge.  Would you believe that a whopping 32,322 of you registered for the event from 136 countries across our customer, prospect, partner and Splunker communities, and that 20,542 of you participated live?! We also unveiled a number of advancements across our portfolio of products, which you can catch up on over at our Product News & Announcements blog, or just right into the announcements for platform, security, or observability, not to mention sign up for our new Beta for Splunk Enterprise. In total, more than 112k sessions were attended across the two days, the virtual booths clocked 26k+ of you stopping by, and we even had 80+ of you pop in to our Community Virtual hangout after-hours... so I think it's fair to say... y'all are living your best .conf life. 💅 What was MY favorite moment of .conf21, you might ask? Well... surely I'm biased... but it was a straight up tie between the induction of our new 2021 SplunkTrust AND seeing them in their VIP virtual front-row seats during the main .conf21 keynote! Our SplunkTrust, selected annually, represent some of our most knowledgable, most passionate, and most contributing community members across all of our programs. And this year we welcomed 13 new members alongside 56 returning members. You can check out @jhupka_splunk 's blog post, learn more about the program, and look for the fez around the community! If you missed it, never fear... .conf Online is here! More than 200 breakout sessions are now available, with slides and video, and of course still absolutely free for our community. (Pro Tip: check out the filters on the left 👈  to narrow down all that awesome content... by track, role, industry, product, and more.) And if you're looking for "tips" from some of our "pros," then I highly recommend checking out the SplunkTrust Track Sessions from this year's event. They're... they're just... ... ... *chef's kiss emoji*. (Yeah... I spelled out the emoji.) But if I could recommend only one thing to watch (or re-watch!), it would have to be the the .conf21 Keynote and Super Sessions. They're all chocked full of Splunk-y goodness, and include: .conf21 Keynote -- "How to Turn Data Into Doing" Security Super Session -- "Reduce Risk with Analytics-Fueled, Automation-Driven and Cloud-Delivered Security" Observability Super Session -- "Innovate and Modernize Faster with Splunk's Comprehensive Enterprise Observability Solution" Platform Super Session -- "Splunk, Your Partner in the New Era of Cloud Transformation" Customer Success Super Session -- "Success on Every Step of the Journey" Partner Super Session -- "Driving Customer Success Together, with Partners" With all of this awesome content available online, I know some of you are wondering where some of the event's "Feature Sessions" are (*cough* *cough* Mark Hamill *cough*). Unfortunately, if it isn't already available in .conf21 Online, then it likely means we don't have permission to make that content available on demand. Over the past year, THOUSANDS of Splunk community members joined us for Dungeons & Data Monsters (D&DM) at .conf20 and D&DM 2.0: Splunk 011y Day Edition, helping our heroes save the Splunk Cloudom time and again. Since then, there's been lots of interest in the next exciting installment of this fun and Splunk-y spin on the classic tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons.
