Here are a few questions from the session (get the full Q&A deck and live recording in the #office-hours Slack channel):

Q1: How can I use a token within a token inside an XML Dashboard?

  • Use a combination of <set> and <eval> or <condition> to change one token based off the value of another token
  • Examples of tokens usage

Q2: How to migrate HTML dashboards to dashboard studio?

  • Unfortunately, HTML dashboards will have to be rebuilt from scratch

Q3: Is there greater efficiency in working with the Dashboard studio than in the past?

  • Customizing layout and styling should be easier with our drag & drop capabilities, absolute layout, and support for new objects such as shapes, lines, and images
  • We've also provided UI to reuse searches and configure base and chain searches, which should make it easier to build performant dashboards that minimize resource consumption

Other Questions/Topics (check the #office-hours Slack channel for responses):

  • How we can migrate all our classic dashboards to dashboard studio in one click?
  • Are Splunk Enterprise and Splunk OC Dashboards same in the way we create them?
  • How soon could we put a wrapped vustom_viz like a mini drag/drop container into dashboard studio
  • Drilldowns in Dashboard Studio
  • Utilizing single value trellis in dashboard studio
  • Dashboard Performance & Customization tips

Live Questions

  • Will Splunk sometime in the future consolidate the different dashboarding Features between simple_xml, Analytics Workspace (which is basically just a huge JS) and Dashboard Studio?
  • Is it possible to set a Default value that is shown instead of showing <no-results> or Hide that Panel?
  • Is it possible to reduce the font size yet? Or is this still a future feature (in table)?
