Here are a few questions from the session (get the full Q&A deck and live recording in the #office-hours Slack channel):

Q1: How do we migrate all our classic dashboards to dashboard studio in one single click?

  • You can convert a Classic dashboard using the "Clone to Dashboard Studio" action
  • Currently we don't support bulk conversion, although it is on our roadmap to be supported in the future

Documentation:

Q2: The top 5 things that users and stakeholders want to see in today's dashboards

  • Good design that makes it easy to understand the flow of information
  • At-a-glance status monitoring
  • Interactivity, so that users can drill into data to get more details
  • Detailed information, often in the form of tables or raw events
  • Links to other relevant information, documentation, or related apps
  • It totally depends on the industry, stakeholders' roles, and so on, but typically we hear that users like to see:
  • You can check out the Examples Hub in your Splunk environment for dashboard inspiration

Q3: Can Javascript or modified css include in studio?

  • We do not currently support custom JS or CSS extensions in Dashboard Studio
  • We aim to natively support ~80% of the most popular use cases so that custom extensions aren't necessary
  • Let's discuss your use cases!

Other Questions (check the #office-hours Slack channel for responses):

  • What are the pros and cons of using Dashboard Studio vs. classic?
  • How can I block users from running the following search index=*
  • How to make the most effective dashboard to draw users in
  • en-US/app/splunk-dashboard-studio/example-hub-multiselect-input  Would like to see that working in similar way as en-US/app/sim
  • Can we create give radius only on top of rectangle. I need only a curve on top (left and right) corner of rectangle not for bottom.
  • Javascript-based event handling in the Splunk dashboard
  • Making dashboards feel interactive, detail panels that change, clickable areas, etc.
  • Dashboard Studio Examples Hub:  Multiselect Input
  • Using Defaults
  • Building dashboards for SOC team - scalability to a wall of monitors
  • How to use the syntax to create reports and save them as dashboard
  • How to generate reports and create dashboard studio

Live Questions

  • Why are we preventing background images to be updated by only admin?
  • What are the options available for default settings? I know we can set default settings for time and thresholds; what about the size of visualizations such as single value?
  • We have a dashboard that generates a dropdown set of values from a search. How can we set the default value of the dropdown to one of the search results? (Currently in a classic but moving to studio is an option if necessary)
  • Can dashboard studio be consider as a capability filler if we compare it too ITSI/ES glass tables?
  • How can I navigate to the Example Hub in the Splunk Environ?
