Description

Splunk for VMware unlocks the value of vSphere data such as performance metrics, logs, vCenter Server tasks and events.

It enables:

  • Proactive monitoring of your VMware environment. Identify issues and drill down to the root of cause of the problem using the new visualizations.
  • Correlation of virtualization data with data from other technology tiers. Find causal links between application performance issues and the underlying hypervisor, storage, networking and server infrastructure.
  • Granular performance management and analysis. Collect and persist deep granular performance data directly from the vSphere hosts and trace virtual machine performance from host to host to troubleshoot contention-related issues.
  • Complete operational visibility and capacity analytics. Find capacity constrained hosts, idle virtual machines, underutilized clusters, overprovisioned datastores. Trend performance statistics to find usage patterns and likely capacity bottlenecks.
  • Change tracking and asset reporting. Track detailed user-initiated changes, automated vSphere actions as well as report on inventory and status of virtual components.
  • Security reporting and monitoring. Monitor the environment for suspicious activity, user role changes, unauthorized access and more.

Splunk for VMware uses the power of Splunk to give you the insights you need into your IT infrastructure and make informed business and operational decisions.

Hi Guys,

Has anyone got any rough estimates on license size required for this? Given a dozen VMware servers, a few hundred VMs and some automated systems which spin up VMs on demand are we likely to be consuming a significant (GBs) chunk of our license?

Reviews related to version 1.0.3 (current is 2.0.0)

"4: VMware Perl API package. Download version 5.0 (Update 1)" VMware website give me an error: 5.0 update 1 is no longer available. Can I use 5.1 version instead 5.0u1?

[Edit] Documentation checklist tell me that "download the VMware vSphere SDK for Perl version 5.1 package (64bit for linux) called VMware-vSphere-Perl-SDK-5.1.0-780721.x86_64.tar.gz". Please, fix the app description :)

Regards Marco

Right now the Splunk for VMware Solution is in Preview release with a limited set of customers (essentially a late-stage Alpha). If you are logged into Splunkbase and are supposed to have access to it, the "Contact Sales" button will turn into a "Download" button. If you are not authorized to have access, please click "Contact Sales" and fill out the form. We will get in touch with you about possibly getting access to the Preview and / or the upcoming Beta release.

This is most likely due to an ID / permissions issue. If you are authorized to have access to the VMware preview, you should also have access to the docs. If the docs are showing no product version defined, please send a note to the e-mail address provided in the original announcement and we will help you resolve the issue.
