Which license to use for standalone deployment server?

If I have the deployment server enabled as a separate standalone instance of Splunk, can I use the forwarder license or should I have a small license carved from my enterprise Splunk license?

I believe the forwarder license works for both a search head as well as the standalone deployment server, as long as neither of these are actually indexing data.

For splunk 4.2 + the dedicated deployment servers can be slaves of the license-master.
