Windows eventlog stops forwarding

I have setup the light forwarder to send a Windows event log to my splunk server. It works fine for a little while and then events stop showing up on the splunk server. If I restart the splunkd service on the forwarder the logs begin flowing again. Why would my events stop forwarding?
