Refine your search:

I have been trying to get the windows app working on a test server W2k3-32bit running on a VMware instance with 4 GB and 2 CPU. When I enable the security event log (only) and save, I eventually get this:

Encountered the following error while trying to update: in handler 'localapps': the following required arguments are missing: classes.

Configuration fails and I cannot proceed.

There are no relevant hits when I search this error message. Anyone know what's causing it? I've never had any trouble with the windows app before.

Also, does anyone know why there's a downloadable windows app in splunkbase as well as the distributed one? They seem to be different (despite containing the same version info) but there's no explanation that I can find.

What is the version of Splunk you are running on? And for this instance that is causing the above error, are you using the downloadable App from Splunkbase.com or the App that comes inside the distributed Splunk package?

We had to try another server in the end--looks like our VM instance was corrupted.

Also the standalone windows app is for non-windows splunk servers...bit of a d'oh moment there. Word of warning, it does not seem to work identically to the native windows app.
