It is a an enterprise license that allows for performing distributed searches over other indexers, but not any significant amount of indexing. Sometimes a search head license will include some indexing capacity for storing summary data, though the licensing requirements for summaries will be changing in the near future.

If you are performing any amount of indexing over 1MB/daily you will need to contact Support to request a license large enough to handle the indexing volume. This will need to be carved out of your main indexing license.

As gkanapathy mentions, this will be changing in 4.1 where summary indexing will no longer count against your license.
